how to get the most out of yoga classes
wear loose clothing, you should feel comfortable throughout the class
bring a blanket, cushion or quilt with you for relaxation if you like
practice asana with bare feet
this is not only for safety but allows your toes and the muscles in your feet to move freely
bring socks for relaxation
if you have verrucae or athletes foot, don't let this stop you!
use tea tree to help the healing process and to avoid spreading by sealing with bazouka (available from chemists)
avoid a main meal within 2 hours before a class or a snack within 1.5 hours
drink water/herbal tea 1 hour before a class and sip water during the class if thirsty, especially in hot weather
alcohol should be avoided completely on the day of a class
it is advisable to use a yoga mat especially on hard floors for comfort and safety
you may be able to borrow one in class, but please bring a towel to cover the mat for hygiene
be on time
you will be able to relax more easily and make the most of your yoga time
it's only fair not to disturb others by being late
if you are menstruating and in the first 2 or the heaviest days of your cycle, avoid inversions - this is where the hips are higher than chest level - it is not dangerous but can make your period heavier for a while and a downward flow (apana) of energy should be encouraged
you will be asked to complete a health form on enrolment
please advise your teacher before subsequent classes if your health changes or since your last class you:-
a. feel/have felt unwell
b. are taking any new medication
c. have had to attend the doctor or hospital
