WELCOME TO YOGA
Yoga originates from India. Evidence has been found of it's practices in existence over 5000 years ago. The word yoga means union and this link is the body, the mind and the spirit. We use the body poses and breathing exercises to develop self-awareness and mental clarity
You will find many terms quoted in Sanskrit, within the world of yoga. It is an ancient language, lovingly preserved by yogis all over the world. The physical exercises are called ASANAS
Yoga can be a way of life for you or simply a physical practice, meditation or relaxation class. You will find that the deeper you explore yoga, the more benefits you will notice in your physical, spiritual and emotional well-being
Over the beginners course, you will have a good introduction to many yogic practices. No two classes will be the same. There may be some practices which you enjoy more than others. One thing is for sure though, it will never be boring!
The basic structure of a 90 minute class will look something like this but will vary according to content and timing, if necessary for the class to be effective and enjoyable:-
1. 5 - 10 mins - relaxation and focus
2. 10 - 15 mins - warm up and stretch/sun salutation
3. 50 mins - asana practice including standing, seated/floor postures, balance, twist, inversion etc
4. 5 mins - breathing exercise (pranayama)
5. 10 - 15 mins - meditation, relaxation
